Year round the area around Yarcombe is quite simply one of the most beautiful in the country. Yarcombe is almost at the geographical centre of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which stretches from Honiton in the West to Taunton in the North and to Chard and Axminster in the East and South. Peppered with villages, valleys and hills the whole area is unspoilt and a delight to explore. Whether you visit in the crisp Spring, the buzzing height of Summer, the misty Autumn or the wonderful Winter the area is always picturesque and fun to explore.

So...what is there to do when you stay at The Belfry?
Well, despite being in a tiny village in rural East Devon we are ideally placed for all sorts of different trips and days out. We're half an hour from the South coast with towns such a Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth all worth a visit. Then there are the villages of Beer, Branscombe, Axmouth and Salcombe. The North coast is only a bit further away with Lynton and Lymouth and the stunning Watersmeet just an hour or so away. It's less than an hour to the middle of Dartmoor, to Plymouth and to Stonehenge. It's half an hour to Exeter, forty five minutes to Torbay and a wee bit longer down to Totnes and lovely Dartmouth.
And in amongst and in between there are towns, villages, gardens, pubs, country houses, museums, beauty spots, attractions and even somewhere called Diggerland where you can race dumper trucks!
What we've tried to do here is put together a list of things to do, places to go, meals to be eaten and sights to be seen. There is much much more to do than we have here at the moment and over time we'll add to the list as our guests make recommendations. But just to start you off here are some of the places most recommended by our guests (and ourselves) |
